Paid Web Directory Placements
As we all know, Google is now officially announce that buying/selling text link will risk your site. The penalties for link buying/selling are clear. See Google post at Google Webmaster Central .
This confusion lies in the common belief that there are two ways for optimizing the link-based popularity of your website: Either the meritocratic and long-term option of developing natural links or the risky and short-term option of non-earned backlinks via link spamming tactics such as buying links. We’ve always taken a clear stance with respect to manipulating the PageRank algorithm in our Quality Guidelines. Despite these policies, the strategy of participating in link schemes might have previously paid off. But more recently, Google has tremendously refined its link-weighting algorithms. We have more people working on Google’s link-weighting for quality control and to correct issues we find. So nowadays, undermining the PageRank algorithm is likely to result in the loss of the ability of link-selling sites to pass on reputation via links to other sites.
So if you sell text links and Google figures this out they might take away your ability to pass reputation to other sites. Also buying text link is consider as non-earned links and will discount these links if Google spot them.
What will happen to small paid directory ? The directory can still operate and accept payment for review as long as the site submitted used the nofollow attribute. Who like their site to have a nofollow attribute ? No one I guess if they targeting SE not the traffic. ![]()
Google Reindexing, How often?
Google is constantly reindexing the web. Active portions of the web may be visited several times a day. Less active portions may be spidered once or twice a month or so.
Earlier this year they appeared to have created a filter on new links / new sites to where it takes a while for your rankings to really go up in competitive markets (especially if your site is new and does not have much linkage data pointing at it yet)…thats part of the reason for my 90 day guarantee thingie…it will take most people nearly that length of time to start seeing decent movement in Google in competitive markets.
Don’t forget to mix up your link text using various different discriptive link text combinations when you get your inbound links. Some directories will only let you use your official site name and some are a bit more lenient.
Also keep in mind some of the other things you can be doing to boost your site: writing articles, participating in communities, logical link swaps, asking for links, etc.
Best of luck with your site!

Link Build Or Burn
We all have heard what link buildings can do with our web sites and how it increases our indexed links on the search engines such as google(tm) and yahoo(tm)
Now the billion dollar question is how to do it exactly? Link building has been Google’s one of the primary factors in determining good prioritized listings on it’s databases. Back in the early days when site used to link to a certain site they know content will be valuable to their visitors, just link back with no referral links, no link tracking urls, and even does not request a link back or a reciprocal link.
Now people are becoming more and more “what’s in it for me?” syndrome and will link back to a site but it needs to be placed in mydomain.com/stayaway/dontcrawl/followme/nobenefits/yourpage.htm I think you got the point.
Now here’s my based-on-experience first-hand knowledge of how to build links back to your site.
Search engines never changed their feed methods as before but now made it more accessible even to a web beginner. The goal of these is to get as much link as they want to feed the hungry spiders (the search engine bot). They’re still “eating” .xml and rss (really simple syndication).
1. I personally recommend Super Rss from http://www.hunterdavis.com/ssrss.html to build manually my links aided by common sense. I choose main links like home, services, contact me, information, etc. and a new product/services listing page, and what’s new links to include in it. It’s very simple to use, type in the title of the link, url, brief description and click on add and your link is in the .xml format.
The format is like this:
<item>
<title>isulong SEOPH</title>
<link>http://www.blueseo.com/</link>
<description>
Isulong SEOPH is my personal blog about search engine optimization (SEO), online marketing, and web development</description>

The above .xml code does make it compatible for search engine spiders to eat it’s spider food and “digest” it easily. It needs at least to contain 10 or 20 linkpages information and it’s ready to go. Upload the generated .xml file to your site. This is generic as it can be and don’t use the google sitemapper for it’s only compatible with Google and not with the other search engines.
2. Go to http://www.pingoat.com/ and submit your .xml in the .xml feed (optional) field. Your .xml might look like this http://www.yourlink.com/yoursite.xml Make sure you select everything to submit to.
3. Go to http://my.yahoo.com/ click on Edit page and then add url via .xml. This will expose your .xml to the news category of yahoo.com and will publish it to other my.yahoo.com users as well in real-time.
4. Go to http://my.msn.com/ In the “Add Content” section, look for “Search for content to add” and type in full url to your .xml file as hosted on your hosting account.
5. Go to http://www.google.com/ig/ Login and click on “Add content” and click on “Add by Url” next to the search box and type in your full url to your .xml file.
6. Go to http://feeds.my.aol.com/index.jsp and click on “Add A Feed” type in the full url to .xml file and provide a title/tag and place in proper category.
7. Go to http://www.cflwaves.com/projects/ and download Blog Pinger and place in desired folder in your computer, browse it’s folder and open up pings.txt and place all of these:

Directory Submission Strategies
- Research each directory and categories that will fit your domain/sites.
Another reason why manual directory submissions are far much better than automatic blasters or auto submissions is that you need to think through very carefully what categories fit your sites. Disregarding this important research about your site will not save you from millions of unrelated commercial messages (spam) done on your email.Careful research of your site’s category will prompt you to write a concise, accurate description that relates to the directory’s description.
- Determine the best description for your web site in each category. Since manual directory submission is one of the core promotions that you can do for your web site, it’s better to hint the webmaster or owner of the directory that you mean serious business and that your keywords and descriptions are the fruits of your careful study of your web site.If the directory doesn’t have your desired specific category it’s better to suggest it to the owner of the directory rather than be sorry.
- Make sure your (USP) unique selling proposition is included in your site’s description. Your description should be unique even though it resembles description style of other web sites in your targeted directory. So if you’re company has specialties in 3 services, mention those 3 specific services in your description. If your site targets a specific audience, include that as well.
- Write descriptions of varying lengths and keep it in a .txt file for cut-n-paste submissions. Directories are not similar in the number of characters it accepts so better be prepared submitting the ones they approve. Make sure there are no repeat keywords on the description and don’t try to “stuff” it with too many unrelated keywords. Remember that your site is a work of “art” in the eyes of the “human” editors of these directories so appeal to them not to the software-backend of their directory.
- Whenever budget allows, use the paid or premium listings of a directory. Most free listings are often listed very slow like in after 4 weeks and doesn’t have any guarantees, remember since most of the search engines measure link popularity in the quickness your site appears in a given high - pr directory so better invest that kind of money long term on the directories rather than be sorry.
- Verify your site manually by visiting the directory itself to see your listings. If your site is not yet listed in the given amount of time, it’s healthy to resubmit it to the directory let’s say an ample wait time of 4 weeks is acceptable and does not appear that you are actually “begging” the directory owner. Keep track of your dates of submissions, categories, descriptions, titles and so on. If your site is not yet listed after so much wait time on it, it’s better to contact the directory owner to know and for you to act what stuff your site contains that prohibits them from listing it.
- Always submit your domain name and not a page. This will limit the directory you can submit to, but it’s better to have quality visitors rather than so many that will only consume your bandwidth.

SEO’s Guide In Directory Submission
Manual Directory Submission seems to prevail on the start of the Internet and even nowadays it’s becoming the trend. From the layman’s point of view of doing business like in the actual world, your business should be listed in the trade directories, phone directories and different kind of directories that allow access to your company’s profiles, products and services offerings. On the Internet, it woks very fairly the same and there are several huge directories that you need to prioritised to be listed on it such as google, yahoo, dmoz, msn, altavista, etc. The more appropriate the directory for your domain the better to get listed. Submitting a site is merely telling a directory that is also managed by a human that your site exists and is ready to do business, thus you are suggesting it to the directory. One submission or suggestion is most appropriate.
Things To Remember When Doing Manual Directory Submission:
- Your site’s meta such as title, keyword and description must be all set.
- Your site’s should not contain any incomplete pages or under construction if you submit this site without this consideration, it will get you rejected fast and guaranteed.
- Think very well your site’s niche products/services and concentrate on them building your pages very carefully to “zero-in” those products/services.
- Products and services are very similar to your site’s meta keywords. It’s better to have 5 zeroed-in keywords rather than having 20 or 25 keyword. Concentrate on those 5 keywords. Eat, sleep, breath, and do every day things with those “keywords” in mind, don’t let anything in the world distract you from those goals.
- Your site’s meta descriptions are also derived and suggested from your keywords. An example construction is below:
- Your site’s meta title will and need to agree and be similar with your keywords and description combined. Don’t get out of focus on it.
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN” “http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd“>
<html xmlns=”http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml“>

<meta name=”keywords” content=”Search engine optimization, SEO, website, promotion, SEO Philippines, placement, website submission, submission, directory, SEO friendly web directory, web design, development, engine, ranking ” />
Base your entry on meta from the example given above.
Types Of Directory Submissions:There are 2 types: (a) manual and (b) automatic
1. Consider manual submission as like into driving with your eyes fixed on the windshield as automatic as to just driving without looking.
2. Having mentioned the above comparison of the 2 types, most seo will tell you going to the path of manual submission is best on every web site.
3. Doing submissions is a lifetime project assigned to every web site it cannot be ignored. It must be done religiously and it cannot be finished. No one can ever say that he or she is an seo guru for it will never be finished. You have to study and research all those web directories out there, don’t worry one site claimed there are already 700,000 to a million web directories recorded so you have a lot of things to do.
4. Do the submission first as an example with 2 staff (at the most) watching you how you do it. Make sure there’s a contract first before doing this.
Trying to distinguish a bad seo from a good one nowadays is very difficult but I have compiled several guides both for the would-be clients of SEO Experts and for the SEO doing search engine optimization as a profession. I’ll start with the guide for the “would-be” clients.
Guide For The “would-be” SEO Clients:
1. Always remember no SEO expert will give you enough information about a site’s seo efforts for you to duplicate them.
2. Ask to see success results for the company’s seo efforts. Let them quote you some sample domains they done with the past like for example 5 or more domains are convincing enough. Tip: The first place to look at is at the main corporate domain of the said seo company.
3. You should at least get straight answers from the following questions:
- What are some sites you’ve worked on successfully?
- For what keywords is the site ranking well?
- About how often are those keywords searched on?
- If you did not optimise the site to rank high for keywords, did you do anything for the site’s content to help it attract more non-standard search traffic?
- How much traffic does it have?
- What general methods did you use to achieve these results? (optional) If the company agrees to answer, then you’re chance are huge that this company is really an seo expert.
4. The most important point of seo quality assurance is the cost.
5. No real seo company is going to perform an seo service for a particular site for less than they could have gotten it for a year of adsense or affiliate earnings for the same amount of work. Let’s face it, the adsense empire technology is being monopolised by both blackhat seo and the good seo just because of their assured earnings per year and they could live and profit without even without a client for a year. Most of their pricing scheme will cost you more than a leg or neck or it could be more than that but the good seo will stick to their price.
How To Use The Web Directories For The Best Seo Efforts:
1. The “Do-it-yourself” Guide starts by visiting the SEO Friendly Web Directory located at http://www.seoreign.com/ and then browsing through the many listings of manual directories and submitting through them one by one.
2. Submit your domain to as much web directories as you can whether they are free, paid, and niche directories. This is the basic core of your web promotion and should be done on a regular if not on a daily basis. Hire at least 2 staff to do it for you on a daily basis. Be careful of rotten web directories that lists porn web sites, gambling web sites and all kind of illegal content.
3. Read me first. Most web directories have high PR so submitting to them without an exchange deal is very difficult, read first their guidelines and don’t just “blindly” submit to them without reading it first. Mostly exchange deals are in the form of you are (a) obligated to receive from them a daily, weekly or monthly newsletter in exchange for your free listings with them; (b) requires you to edit one page dedicated for their listings; (c) requires reciprocal linking; (d) requires a virtual card or some sort of “buy me a beer” to get you listed; and of course (e) requires one time payment fee.
4. If your site deals with wholesale products you have sourced from your suppliers, it’s best to list in that particular “niche” directories, google can mostly help like you can search “wholesale+directories” or any keyword with “wholesale and directory” on it. You can run several keyword spinners out there that are free and that can help guide you through the keyword “wholesale”.
5. One domain - one product. The trend nowadays is niche content and niche directories so it’s better to create one domain for one product that will help you do most at least of your seo’s efforts when it comes to the brand or name you carry.
So the next time you do your daily submissions, prioritise going to http://www.seoreign.com/
